What you will need additionally:
- Jersey needle for your sewing machine
This add-on is only intended for making the V-neck of your Cut and Sew T-shirt. Follow this guide instead of step 5 in the regular instructions. After following this guide, continue with the regular instructions from step 6. The V-neck you will create with this add-on has a small overlap at the front. This guide was made using test fabric, which is not available on the website.
1. Take your neckband and fold it in half. Iron it flat, with the unprinted sides together.
2. Place the two ends together, with the fold inward, and pin them.
3. Use a jersey needle on your sewing machine and make a small stitch about 2.5-3 cm long on the open side of the corner you created. Do this about half a cm wide. This way, the stitch will not be visible on your final result.
4. Now take your t-shirt and make a similar stitch of 2.5-3 cm along the tip of your V-neck. Again, stay about 0.5 cm from the edge. Make sure the two stitches meet directly below the tip of the V-neck. In the example, you can see the back of the fabric to make this clear.
Make a small cut at the tip of the V-neck, towards the stitches, without cutting through the stitches.
5. Take the tip of your neckband and the tip of the V-neck on your t-shirt and pin them together with one pin (good sides together). Place the pin exactly where your V-neck is deepest and where the tip of your neckband falls.
Make a stitch about 2.5-3 cm long, first attaching the left side of the neckband to the neckline. Do this by aligning them nicely and stitching them together. Make sure the pin stays in place. Use it as a pivot point to place the right side of your neckband. Make a similar stitch of about 2.5-3 cm on that side too.
The cut you made earlier at the tip of the V-neck will now open slightly, which will allow you to insert the neckband neatly into the neckline.
Place the entire neckband with the open side against the neckline. Pin it in place, stretching it slightly. You will notice that the neckband is smaller than the neckline, but that's intended. This way, you will create a nicely fitting neckband.
Make sure to place the middle of the neckband against the middle of your back panel.
Tip: to do this easily, you can first mark the middle of your back panel with a pin by folding your t-shirt in half and placing a pin in the center.
6. Now attach the neckband to the neckline of your t-shirt. Be sure to use a zigzag stitch or an overlock stitch here, as this part of your t-shirt is often stretched, and a stretchy stitch is absolutely required! Stretch your t-shirt slightly as you sew; this will prevent any (visible) pleats at the neckline.
